Supermodel Anja Rubik, who has been the face of YSL, Elie Saab and Salvatore Ferragamo fragrances, is now launching her own in March – Original by Anja Rubik.  The Eau de Parfum will retail for $110 at Barney’s New York and net-a-porter.com.

The packaging is definitely original – the scent is housed in a round bottle with a dual finish – the top half is frosted, and the bottom is clear.

Its design – and juice – were both inspired by a black and white photograph of a lily, by Robert Mapplethorpe. The bottle was also inspired by a dress.

Rubik tells Allure more about her inspirations: “I wanted something that was timeless and chic, and something very minimal…Robert Mapplethorpe and his black-and-white image of the lily was a huge reference for me, so for this project I went for something black-and-white. Then I like that there is an asymmetric line in the back. It’s different, and it’s similar to my fashion tastes—I love slits. It reminds of the dress I wore to the Met Ball.”

She explained more on style.com, saying the dual lacquering on the bottle also reflects the contrasting aspects of her Gemini personality.

Rubik says that the fragrance was in development for two years, with perfumer Patricia Choux, to make sure the scent conveyed a feeling of “empowerment.” It contains notes of lilies, iris, green tea, wood notes and pink peppercorns.
